Southern Union Chorus was formed in 1984 from the Dolphinaires (1972) who were founding Members of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) and the Harbourmasters (1974).
The Chorus currently has 40 members of all ages and background. Our aim is to sing well, provide entertainment of the highest quality, and have lots of fun doing it. We have charitable status and donate a proportion of the monies from this entertainment to two selected local charities (currently the Brachytherapy unit for the treatment of prostate cancer and Gully’s place supporting families of terminally ill children, both based in Poole Hospital).
We regularly entertain a variety of audiences at private functions such as weddings, anniversaries and birthdays, club and associations events as well as public performances. We compete in the Annual BABS Convention and in the Bournemouth Music Festival and also organise public shows with other choruses, choirs and bands. For more info go to Book Us
We are always on the lookout for new members. Previous experience of a choir or knowledge of music are not necessary (most of our members do not read music). The only requirement is to be able to sing in tune. We welcome everyone to come to our Monday evening rehearsals or join our free “Learn to Harmonise” course held every autumn to introduce potential members to Barbershop harmony.
