Southern Union Chorus was formed in 1984 from the Dolphinaires (1972) who were founding Members of The British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) and the Harbourmasters (1974).
The Chorus has about 40 members of all ages and background. Our aim is to sing well, provide entertainment of the highest quality, and have lots of fun doing it. We have charitable status and donate a proportion of the monies from this entertainment to local Charities.
We regularly entertain a variety of audiences at private functions such as weddings, anniversaries and birthdays, club and associations events. We also organise public shows with other choruses, choirs and bands. We take part and compete with other choruses in various events such as the Annual Convention of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) and the Bournemouth Music Festival.
We are always on the lookout for new members. Previous experience of a choir or knowledge of music are not necessary (most of or members do not read music). The only requirement is to be able to sing in tune. We welcome everyone to observe our Monday evening rehearsals and or join our free “Learn to Sing” course held every autumn to introduce potential members to Barbershop harmony.
